What About That 1953 CIA Iranian Coup?
[FreedomsZone] I stated that the last time the United States government overthrew an Iranian government, back in 1953, it destroyed a democracy and instituted a dictatorship. Instead of removing the chains of tyranny from the Iranian people, it helped to put them on, and helped keep them on for the 26 years that the Shah remained in power.

“Seeing Islam as a culture rooted in war”
[http://www.taoofdefiance.com] The book looks back at the very beginning of the Muhammedan creed, when “Islam began in banditry” and spread over centuries of tyrannical and barbaric Imperialism, conquering through brutality, greed and deception. Seeing Islam as a culture rooted in war By Carlin Romano It sounds like yesterdays newspaper: Growing lawlessness”¦ led to the formation of citizen organizations for defense and reprisals”¦ .

TIME.com: Iran's Nuclear Threat -- Page 1
[Time.com] Critics of the Administration say Bush's hard public line against the so-called "Axis of Evil," combined with the threatened war with Iraq, have acted as a spur to both Iran and North Korea to accelerate their nuclear programs. "If those countries didn't have much incentive or motivation before, they certainly did after the Axis of Evil statement," says one western diplomat familiar with the Iranian and North Korean programs.

Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini
[Lexicorient.com] Two titles have been used for him, 'Ayatollah', which is the title of a religious leader, but not the highest in Shi'i Islam. This was Khomeini's title at the time of the Iranian revolution, but he soon took the title 'Imam', which is definitely the highest position in Shi'i Islam.

Of Course the U.S. is Taking Sides
[netwmd.com - The War to Mobilize Democracy] Now the talking heads have gotten a hold of the fact that the U.S. is rushing delivery to Israel of precision bunker-busting bombs, to aid in the Jewish state’s fight against the terrorist group Hezbollah. Hand-wringing has already started because the expedited delivery “is likely to anger Arab governments because of the appearance that the United States is actively aiding Israel at such a sensitive time,” according to the BBC.

History of Iran: Ayatollah Khomeini
[Iranchamber.com] On the afternoon of 'Ashoura (June 3, 1963), Imam Khomeini delivered a speech at the Feyziyeh madreseh in which he drew parallels between the Umayyad caliph Yazid and the Shah and warned the Shah that if he did not change his ways the day would come when the people would offer up thanks for his departure from the country. The immediate effect of the Imam's speech was, however, his arrest two days later at 3 o'clock in the morning by a group of commandos who hastily transferred him to the Qasr prison in Tehran.

Ayatollah Khomeini
[Rotten.com] At the end of the Iran-Iraq war, Khomeini faced a public that had been demoralized by massive casualties and a peace agreement which amounted to an outright defeat. To cheer up the masses, the normally humorless cleric decided to have a little fun and issued a fatwa, or religious edict, calling on Muslims everywhere to kill an obscure, semi-talented author named Salman Rushdie for writing a tepid book called The Satanic Verses:

Counterbalance for Sun. 16 July
[THE TENSION] "The answer to your question is in particular from the American perspective, if I can be allowed that. Before 9/11 the terrorist group that had killed more Americans actually was Hezbollah and with the catastrophic attacks of 9/11 Al-Qaeda moved up in that deplorable category as having killed more Americans."

The 1.2 Billion Dollar Minute
[Bring it On!] All the time it takes to simply place a new set of pricing placards upon the sign out front, indicating a change in the cost of fuel at the pumps. A very disturbing thing happened all across America on Sunday, indeed, all across the world it seems, a very disturbing act of piracy and international commercial fraud.

Counterbalance for Fri. 14 July Evening Ed.
[THE TENSION] (heritage.org) -- Yesterdays cross-border attack by Hezbollah (Party of God), the Lebanon-based terrorist group, which resulted in the deaths of three Israeli soldiers and the capture of two soldiers now held hostage in Lebanon, has opened up a volatile second front on Israels northern border. With this provocative attack, Hezbollah in one stroke has enhanced its prestige in the Arab world, diverted the worlds attention from a growing crisis over Irans nuclear program, and escalated pressure on Israel, which already was engaged in an intensifying confrontation with the Hamas-led Palestinian authority over a similar abduction of an Israeli soldier on June 25.

Bush Tries Economic Leverage With Putin
[Captain's Quarters] This issue has percolated between Washington and Moscow since the 1990s, when the Clinton administration refused to negotiate -- rightly -- while Moscow built Iran's nuclear capability. Back then, experts considered an Iranian nuke to be more than a decade away, and the US decided that a unilateral approach to Iranian nuclear ambitions suited our purposes.
