Bing Community
[Travel Blog] When I was in Iran and our own presidential election was heating up, it occurred to me that the Bush policy (seemingly shared by Republican candidate John McCain) of tough-talking rhetoric might actually empower Iran's leaders to more effectively preach their message of fear and hate. But under the Obama administration, our government's attitude about how to engage the Muslim world has changed.

t r u t h o u t | Bush Pushes Persian Gulf Nuclear Agreement
[Untitled] The Bush administration, which has been in initial discussions on nuclear cooperation with other countries in the region including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, argues the UAE deal would serve as a model since it includes tight controls on the use and disposal of nuclear fuel and stipulates intrusive international inspections of facilities. But the region's volatility and Iran's growing influence dictate a more cautious approach, the congressional aide says.

Without a Doubt: Bush Tactics and Propaganda on t...
[TCRNews Musings] Without a Doubt: Bush Tactics and Propaganda on the Road to War With Iran In his October 17th New York Times article, “Without a Doubt,” Ron Suskind recounts a conversation with a senior Bush adviser in the summer of 2002, who noted that people such as Suskind were “in what we call the reality-based community.” When Suskind attempted a reply, the adviser replied: “Thats not the way the world really works anymore. Were an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality.

Deal and no deal
[CRIMES AND CORRUPTIONS OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER NEWS] In spite of sanctions imposed on several firms by the Bush administration, on December 16, 2006, a multi-billion dollar civilian nuclear deal was concluded with China. While the US-China deal may well be a sweetener to nudge China into signing the Iran-sanctions bill, much like the 800-page WTO agreement signed in Hanoi between Bush and Putin, one must wonder if the nuclear technology that the US will hand over to China will end up in the hands of the Taliban or Bin-Laden!

Iran Shifts, Bush Censors
[LiberalOasis] The Washington Note posts statement from fmr Bush official Flynt Everett: " last week, the White House inserted itself into the prepublication review process for an op-ed on the administration's bungling of the Iran portfolio that I had prepared for the New York Times, blocking publication of the piece on the grounds that it would reveal classified information. This claim is false and, I have come to believe, fabricated by White House officials to silence an established critic of the administration's foreign policy incompetence at a moment when the White House is working hard to fend off political pressure to take a different approach to Iran and the Middle East more generally.";

Europeans Support Bush?
[Greg Simmons] Even though Europe has been consistently criticizing the United States about Iraq, it is kind of interested to see that President Bush was able to garner strong support regarding US policies on Iran and North Korea? At one point, President Bush snapped back at a reporter that made the claim that the US was the biggest threat to global security.

Government by pantomime: how Bush decided to talk to Iran
[BTC News] That the president of the US, a country which maintained diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union throughout the Cold War, that brought China in from the cold, that even in its current incarnation acceded to participation in multilateral talks with North Korea, could regard the prospect of direct diplomacy with Iran as unusual to the point of intrigue is bizarre. And lest we forget, the Iranian regime snubbed by Bush in the early years of his reign, when he named the country as a charter member of the Axis of Evil, was a considerably more moderate one than holds power now, at least so far as the elected members of it are concerned, and the US policy toward that earlier regime helped usher in the current one.
