http://thetension.blogspot.com [THE TENSION] "The answer to your question is in particular from the American perspective, if I can be allowed that. Before 9/11 the terrorist group that had killed more Americans actually was Hezbollah and with the catastrophic attacks of 9/11 Al-Qaeda moved up in that deplorable category as having killed more Americans."

[Radioblogger.com] Radio Blogger: And right now, what I'm seeing and what I'm hearing and what I'm witnessing is a Republican Party and a conservative movement that, as you are trying very hard in your own book to make clear to them, that is fracturing, that is falling into a temptation to purify, to attack itself, to heal and cleanse itself by potentially desiring loss in November, 2006, and pursuing loss in 2008 in pursuit of an ideological purity, that will leave this country in the hands of a party that will gut the Patriot Act, that will turn the foreign policy of the United States back over to the U.N., what will not pursue an aggressive war on terror outside our borders, that will not pursue sophisticated signal intelligence means of stopping terrorists within our borders, that will raise taxes by rescinding the Bush tax cuts, that will appoint liberal judges like Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer to the Supreme Court, that will appoint liberal judges at every appellate circuit, and every circuit level in the country, that will reregulate the economy, that will turn over agencies of the federal government into the hands of regulators, tort lawyers, and reformers who want to control American business, and control the economy who will pursue environmental measures that will harm our economy, and that will sort of put us on the track to the Kyoto Protocol. This is a very serious moment in time.

[Juancole.com] Informed Comment: 08/01/2004 - 08/31/2004: With regard to the Arab-Israeli conflict, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and a few allies have succeeded in imposing complete censorship on both houses of Congress. No senator or congress member dares make a speech on the floor of his or her institution critical of Israeli policy, even though the Israeli government often violates international law and UN Security Council resolutions (it would violate more such resolutions, except that the resolutions never got passed because only one NSC member, the US, routinely vetoes them on behalf of Tel Aviv.) As the Labor Party in Israel has been eclipsed by the Likud coalition, which includes many proto-fascist groups, this subservience has yoked Washington to foreign politicians who privately favor ethnic cleansing and/or agressive warfare for the purpose of annexing the territory of neighbors.

[Dinocrat.com] Dinocrat » Blog Archive » Iran’s Rhineland Moment: Iran’s open ridicule of the UN, its sanctions proposals, and the possibility of US action to eliminate Iran’s nuclear plans, is integral to its Rhineland Moment of bold and brazen confrontation with the old powers of the West to see if they will take action, or, by their passivity, acquiesce to the emergence of a new, dominant power. Iran mocks the West, and perhaps rightly so, for its ineptitude and fecklessness, its unwillingness to call a threat a threat, and its seeming retreat from and acquiescence to the men of the Islamic Republic.

The exact targets of these young terrorists were not revealed, but it is their profile that is most shocking: young Canadian Muslims who have somehow become radicalized while growing up in Canada.

http://www.reconstitution.us/seren [Reconstitution] In Iraq, Give Pieces a Chance!: It may be too late to keep Iraq from turning into one large ball of flame, but if we really do care about what happens to the people of Iraq, we ought to at least consider using partitioning to try to end the violence. While it is both pitiful and a damn shame that we have refused to recognize the reality of what we turned loose in Mesopotamia, we could go a long way towards restoring the name of the United States in the world by doing something that (for once) made some sense in regards to our failed policy in Iraq.

http://tigerhawk.blogspot.com [TigerHawk] Wither the 'democratization strategy'?: Several of my absolute favorite terrorism analysts, Andy McCarthy, John Podhoretz, Cliff May, and Michael Ledeen, spent the afternoon of Bastille Day duking it out at The Corner over the "democratization strategy." Let's examine the back-and-forth, and then reprise a topic I have been writing about for more than a year: the "realist" case for promoting democracy in the Muslim world.

Finally, the Iraqis already have 550 metric tons of uranium oxide in their inventory." Iraq's supply of yellowcake dated back to the 1980s, when it had imported hundreds of tons of uranium ore from Niger and mined the rest itself.

http://dailywarnews.blogspot.com  Today in Iraq: , a respected weekly political magazine, that Mr Bush took a personal interest in countering damaging allegations by the former ambassador, Joe Wilson, reveals a White House that was extraordinarily sensitive to any criticism of its prewar planning. It also returns the focus of the criminal investigation into the outing of a CIA agent to the White House only weeks after the senior aide Karl Rove was told he would not face prosecution.
