http://global-war.bloghi.com  Global War: How to re-Win Friends and Massacre Enemies: "Seeing a major opportunity to regain influence lost as a result of setbacks in Iraq, prominent neo-conservatives are calling for unconditional US support for Israel's military offensives in Gaza and Lebanon and "regime change" in Syria and Iran, as well as possible US attacks on Tehran's nuclear facilities in retaliation for its support of Hezbollah. In a Weekly Standard column titled "Our war", editor William Kristol called Iran "the prime mover behind the terrorist groups who have started this war", which, he argued, should be considered part of "the global struggle against radical Islamism". http://eureferendum.blogspot.com  EU Referendum: Journalists themselves cannot be blamed as Basra is clearly dangerous, viz the appalling incident in August last when freelance American journalist, Steven Vincent was killed. He had been writing about the rise of conservative Shiite Islam and the corruption of the Iraqi police, when he was abducted and shot to death in Basra, the first time an American journalist had been deliberately attacked and killed during the war. http://dailywarnews.blogspot.com [Dailywarnews.blogspot.com] Today in Iraq: says Ali Hili, a 33-year-old gay Iraqi exile in London who, with some 30 other gay Iraqis who have fled to the United Kingdom, five months ago founded the Abu Nawas Group there to support persecuted gay Iraqis. (Abu Nawas was a great 8th century classical poet of Arab and Persian descent who is known throughout Middle East cultures, and is famous for his poems in praise of same-sex love.) Said Hili, “We believe that the Badr Corps is receiving advice from Iran on how to target gay people.” In the Islamic Republic of Iran, the regime of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been carrying out a lethal anti-gay pogrom against Iranian gays, notably through entrapment by Internet -- and this tactic has recently begun to be used by the Badr Corps in Iraq to identify and hunt down Iraqi gays.

It never left - Hardball with Chris ...: First of all, there is a Congressional mid-term election to win.  And there are huge questions on the table for both elected and voters alike as these races are considered.  Is there enough war-weariness to overcome doubts about Democratic commitment to national security and safety?  Does the public understand that much of the mistakes of the post-invasion Iraq war could have gone differently if Democrats were in charge of at least one house of Congress in order to exercise oversight of the process through it's spending and intelligence authorizations?  Do voters understand the real financial cost of this "shoot first never ask questions later" president on the domestic priorities that have been too-long neglected? How impossible it is to invest in education and technology and environmental solutions and healthcare and domestic safety when we are sending so much money to fund those priorities in Iraq and Afghanistan?

[Robertdreyfuss.com] Robert Dreyfuss: Despite being widely reported in the mainstream news media that the US and other countries have not found any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, as well as Democrat talking points that Bush lied about WMD, more Americans (50%) think that Iraq had such weapons when the US-led coalition invaded Iraq.

http://www.crooksandliars.com [Crooksandliars.com] Crooks and Liars: Iraq (including Baghdad) is much more calm and stable than what many people believe it to be. But, each day the news media finds any violence occurring in the country and screams and shouts about it - in part because many journalists are opposed to the U.S. effort to fight terrorism."

http://effwit.blogspot.com [Effwit] Peter W. Galbraith On The Iraq War: In the three weeks that followed Baghdad's fall, I was able to go unchallenged into sites of enormous intelligence value, including the Foreign Ministry, Uday's house, and a wiretap center right across Firdos Square from the Sheraton. All three had many sensitive documents but even weeks after the takeover, the only people to take an interest in these document caches were looters, squatters (who burned wiretap transcripts for lighting), journalists, Baathists, Iraqi factions looking for dirt on political rivals, and (possibly) agents of countries hostile to the United States.
