[refWrite...page2] In the decade between Khomeini's return to Tehran and the imposition of his fatwa on Salman Rushdie's novel The Satanic Verses -- and it was almost 10 years to the day that the one followed the other -- Islamism mutated from being a minor irritant to nationalist regimes in Muslim countries into a major threat to the West. The Rushdie affair, and the fatwa in particular, seemed like a warning that the seeds of the Iranian revolution were being successfully scattered across the globe, not least into the heart of the secular West.

[Jihad Watch] For instance, amidst all the battling over ideas and policy along the years, sometimes at the highest levels -- which is continuing -- I have become convinced that I have done absolutely nothing, inasmuch as I am still alive while so many good men, women and children have died under the most horrific circumstances of Islamic oppression. But I’d like to do what I can: write a little commentary on bits and pieces of the Qur'an which plumb the depths of why Islam is essentially violent, and not a religion at all.

Political Pistachio: Khomeini Class Destroyers
[Political Pistachio] The impact of the Khomeini Class (the Kidd Class Destroyers are also sometimes called the Ayatollah Class) remains with the Navy. Whenever I find myself in a discussion with a Navy vet, or active duty Navy servicemember, even those that began to serve after the Kidd Class was long gone, and I tell the person I served aboard a Khomeini Class ship, they always smile in recognition.
