[Travel Insights 100] Dancing With Chains: Notes on Iranian Translation » Travel ...: “Translation is like dancing with chains,” says Ali, echoing the words of a famous Persian translator. “You must stick to the original, but at the same time you must also be free to create something new.” It would be impossible to create the exact same experience in two languages, but you can capture the essence of a piece of writing.
[FCO latest transcripts] Iran travel advice: The waters around the islands of Abu Musa and the Tunbs in the southern Persian Gulf are particularly sensitive and are militarised. [Feministing] What We Missed. - Feministing: The solution to finish with the stoning practice (which btw also applies to men), it seems, is to not vote until the ones back in Iran who believe that voting will bring change and who are dying in the streets because they feel their votes were stolen (the same votes that are as irrelevant to Lila as to the regime), overthrow the regime. But she will scream ”Down with dictators!” all the way from Canada shores.

His distinguished Hindu fellow- poet Rabindranath Tagore said on hearing of Iqbals death: “India, whose place in the world is too narrow, can ill afford to miss a poet whose poetry had such universal value.” Iqbal wrote his incomparably beautiful and moving poetry in both Urdu and Persian, and much of it is known by heart by millions of people in Pakistan, India, Iran and elsewhere.

[Paul's Travel Blog] Paul's Travel Blog: The Turkic World: One of my favorite pasttimes, the hamam [hammam] (see post of 4.27), known popularly as the Turkish bath, exists all over the Turkic world, from Istanbul to Uzbekistan, as well as parts of the Arab world that were subject to Turkic influence, such as Egypt and the Levant. My best guess is that the Turks adopted this custom from people that preceded them (especially the Romans), and there are certainly hamams that predate or are otherwise not originally Turkic (such as in Syria or Morroco), but Turks adopted the hamam as their own and very much contributed to its survival and popularity.
[Tom Baker Cruises Blog] Dubai-The Wonder of Desert! « Tom Baker Cruises Blog: I was fortunate to spend the night at the lovely Park Hyatt Dubai resort with its excellent food and service positioned along the Dubai creek and have a half day private tour with excellent Arabian Adventures who took me on a fast paced tour with a great Egyptian born guide names Yahia, who told me about the great Arabian experiences found along the desert sands with dune buggy tours, resort stays, camel rides, and the like. I found this far more exciting than driving around the mass concrete structures of the modern city including the Worlds Tallest building, the Burj Dubai.
