[Lit Drift: Storytelling in the 21st Century] Persepolis 2.0: A Story Made Eerily Familiar | Lit Drift ...: Persepolis 2.0 begins its story on voting day and continues to include the shocking results, the subsequent protests, and the use of Twitter and other social media in the dissension. The story’s final frames depicts a godlike figure cradling Neda Agha-Soltan in his arms as he croons, “Don’t cry Neda.
[A wide angle view of India] A salute to the Iranian people and Persepolis book review « A wide ...: IF you ever visited Iran with the assumption that it was after all another Muslim nation where all one could expect to see was Mullahs exhorting the faithful to prayers and women clad in burqahs waiting at home for their husbands to return, you would be well advised to prepare for a surprise….They (women) are there in offices, in the markets, driving cars, in the class rooms and the canteens, indeed everywhere, alone or in groups, with men or without them. Once in a while young couples can be seen walking the streets holding hands.
[Jenny's Books] Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi « Jenny's Books: I dont know what I can really say about Persepolis that hasnt been said already. What I love about the first volume of Persepolis is that its always about how Marjane interprets the events around her, much more than it is about the events themselves. As she and her family live through the Islamic Revolution, watching its agenda shift and their country change around them, little Marjane acts on what she thinks she understands. Theres a lovely bit where she insists on spending all her time with an uncle whos a political dissident. Although she is initially interested in him because of his history of persecution by the government, their relationship is very sweet, in the end, and his death leads to a major change in Marjanes ideas for her future.
[The Forbidden Planet International Blog Log] Iron Man triumphs at box office, Persepolis in the shadows but ...: I really enjoyed Iron Man, but I would love to see Persepolis enjoying at least a fraction of that success because it really deserves to. With Marjane being so involved with the film and with the fairly basic animation mirroring the style of the graphic novels it really captures much of the spirit of the books (and it has the voice of a true Queen of the Screen, the wonderful Catherine Deneuve, no bad thing).
[FunnyStrange.com] persepolis: It's an incredibly compelling autobiographical story about a woman growing up in Tehran. She's about my age, was a child during the 1978 revolution, lived through the religious repression of the 80s, then moved to Europe and experienced severe culture shock.
[Quill & Quire] Iran election inspires Persepolis “sequel”: Satrapi’s novels are about her life, but to my generation of Iranians (at least in the west) they have become more than that: they have become iconic. The fact that images from 30 years ago can tell a story about what is happening now makes them all the more powerful.
[Tuned In - TIME.com] Persepolis: An Eye (of the Tiger) on Iran: (In the movie, the scene marks Satrapi's snapping out of a depression that set in after she returned home to Tehran from Europe, where her parents sent her to escape the sexist repression of Khomeni's Iran.) But it captures the movie's (and the books') mix of irreverence and rebellion.
[Blazing Books Blog] Persepolis: It shows that things may be very different while also being much the same for adolescence in other countries. The story line is rather complex and could benefit from a timeline showing the country and who is in control, who is maneuvering for control, and what other countries are doing to influence the control.

[Closetonefilms's Weblog] Persepolis « Closetonefilms's Weblog: The (autobiographical) story follows Marjane from childhood, through school in Austria, all the way into her adult life. Children are more than welcome to watch Persepolis (it’s rated PG-13) but what makes this a film geared towards adults is just that most children won’t care and/or understand the storyline and political themes.
[Rebecca Reads] Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi - Rebecca Reads: I loved how well Marji was able to combine the sense of childhood bewilderment with the horrifying things that were happening in Iran — I don’t know much about the history of the country, so I felt like I was coming into understanding what was happening at the same pace she was.
