Iran Reviews > The G-8 Speaks Softly on Iran's Nuclear Program « Joejolly's Weblog
[Joejolly's Weblog] The leaders of the G-8 countries meeting in the Italian mountain town of L’Aquila issued on July 8 an unusually tough statement on Iran’s postelection crackdown, calling on the regime to respect the rule of law and human rights. But when it came to Tehran’s nuclear program, which President Barack Obama sees as the overriding strategic issue between the U.S. and Iran, the leaders struck a milder tone, urging negotiations and underscoring Iran’s rights to a civilian nuclear program.

[Cricketdiane's Weblog] G-8 Summit Information - 2009 L'Aquila Italy - Resources about the ...: Rule of law continues to be a primary challenge for a number of states concerned, as demonstrated by a series of recent non-constitutional transfers of power. As one consequence, we are witnessing an increase in worrying phenomena such as terrorism, maritime insecurity and illegal activities (trafficking in drugs, small weapons and human beings, and kidnappings for ransom). In that regard, we are particularly concerned about the actions of Al Qaida in the Sahel region, including hostage taking of foreigners, and totally condemn the recent assassination of a British hostage. Trans-national organised crime is also striving to infiltrate and weaken institutions. At the same time, we acknowledge the effectiveness of peace and security initiatives undertaken through ECOWAS.
[Mr. Conservative] Mr. Conservative » Gordon Brown Leads the Free World: It usually works most to the liberal advantage when they elect absent-minded and/or foolish figures to manage the country - so the thinking and responsible Americans are too occupied cleaning up the messes the officials make in the government to recall the mindset origin and the fact that this country tolerates the type of people who elect to put individuals like Barrack Obama into office.
[Wizbang] Silence in Syria, Panic in Iran (Wizbang): Not to take anything away from this, but, the site, while 'deep inside Syria' if you cross Syria from Israel, doesn't really seem very far through hostile territory if you take a Jordan/Iraq route...something the US could pretty plausibly arrange - although they'd probably have to present some pretty damning evidence to get Jordan to go along (assuming they were told). Obviously we'd have to know about a jaunt through Iraq, but no one else would.

[Craig Murray] Craig Murray - Fake Maritime Boundaries: 2- The initial bullish and tough guy stance of Tony Poodlerano on the telly in the EU backslapping convention, whom confidently pronounced the 'illegal' and 'wrong' action of the Iranians in the face of UK mandate awarded by the UN to look after the Iraqi territories. Which then rapidly vanished, giving way to the 'sweaty', 'nervous disposition' accompanied by the 'Christian Look' (the far away gaze, and numb facial features, warbling voice thrown in for good measures).
[Marsboy683's Weblog] MONARCH: The New Phoenix Program « Marsboy683's Weblog: Hired by the CIA after the first gulf war to pave the way for regime change in Iraq, John Rendon helped to organize the Iraqi National Congress, Ahmed Chalabis dissident group (which was later responsible for feeding bogus stories about Iraqs weapons of mass destruction to the press). More recently, though, as Bamford has reported, Rendons firm received a Pentagon contract to mount “a worldwide propaganda campaign deploying teams of information warriors to allied nations to assist them ”in developing and delivering specific messages to the local population, combatants, front-line states, the media and the international community.”
[Garth Turner - Commentaries] The boom goes bust ” Garth Turner - Commentaries: Under the 'Corporations are GOOD, people are BAD' mantra of the CONswervatives, that is their real message, .With the US now making constant threats, rhetoric and the like against Iran, and with Iraq's oil flowing freely to Israel then the more people that are slaughtered there, it frees up more and more land for Israel.
[The Ugly Truth] Netanyahu To The West-Destroy Iran Before Israel Destroys You ...: However, the “dangerous threshold” the wide-eyed believer Netanyahu (as well as others in Israel) fear is not annihilation at the hands of an Iranian nuclear weapon, but rather disintegration of the Jewish state resulting from her people being forced to live by the Golden Rule lest “unfortunate” repercussions ensue from her organically-murderous/religiously-inspired activities. Like a deeply-entrenched crime family who fears the likely-election of a particular prosecuting attorney well-known for his honesty as well as being immune to bribes, bullying, and blackmail, so too is Israel terrified that Iran joining the nuclear family will result in an evening-out of the odds in the Middle East where the Jewish state will no longer be free to murder indigenous Semites in Gaza, the West Bank or Lebanon (as commanded of them by their Old Testament god Yahweh) without fear of blowback.
[Byliner: Stories for Barry Goldberg] Brokeback bombs in Clovis! - By Mickey Kaus - Slate Magazine: Oil producing nations like Iran and Saudi Arabia will still generate billions and billions in easy revenue for many, many years, no? Will a mere price cut (Friedman throws out the highly optimistic goal of $20 a barrel oil) be enough to actually force unwilling regimes to "nurture" the productive middle class that they find so threatening?
